Just so you know…

First and foremost, I am an artist.

I have worked professionally creating assets for social media and websites, theme designs for events, and illustrations and designs for documents and educational materials, but all that wouldn’t be possible without my love for art and creativity. This is why the first items I want to show you are projects I have done for myself in my own time - the things I created just for the love of creating.

Enjoy.

Visual Storytelling

In my opinion, the best art is art that is thought provoking, interesting and peaks curiosity. Two of my favourite paintings are the mural ‘Capriccio’ by Rex Whistler and ‘The Gulf Stream’ by Winslow Homer - both of which show a scene that makes you curious about the context, forcing you to take a closer look.

I have been developing that within my own art, by taking stories and recreating the scenes I see in my imagination. It’s SO MUCH FUN, and incredibly satisfying.

Fan Art

I’m a big nerd. My favourite thing to do in my personal time is make fan art. I recently saw the Dune movie and am currently DYING to draw the characters.

I’ve been drawing my favourite movie characters since I was a kid and I OWE so much of my current skill to that practice.

My ability to draw animals is all thanks to making Disney fan art (hi Simba), and I must admit, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has REALLY helped me improve my human anatomy and action poses.

Youtube Videos

During the lockdown I started dabbling in the art of film making, dipping my creative toe in the great pond that is Youtube.

Through trail and error I have learned so much about what it takes to plan and make a video. One thing I have learned is that having a script and a plan is a GAME CHANGER. The quality of my videos improved dramatically when I started to plan them before filming and I now understand how much a production is able to level up when there is a clear vision to follow.

Themed Illustration and making products.

I spent the whole of August 2021 painting dog illustrations, which was a completely wonderful and enlightening experience. My work was noticed by local artists and I was invited to run a Christmas stall at a stately home Christmas Fair selling products with my illustrations on.

This is something I’ve never done before so I had the opportunity to learn some new things. I made a few sets of Christmassy patterns, using my paintings and turned them into cards and wrapping paper. I added them to my Etsy shop and have had some sales and have also had a few pre-orders as well.

I’ve learned so much about getting art print ready, making repeating patterns, and digitising traditionally-made art.

A Journey through Grief

In 2020 I lost my grandma who I was very close to. One of the ways I processed my grief was to draw some illustrations of a character loosely based on myself. This character was on a journey looking for some treasure.

I allowed my feelings to affect each illustration and found a lot of peace and comfort in the creative process.

Each of the drawings was made with the iPad using the Procreate App.
